You will be amazed with this mountain overlooking Delaware River and Delaware Water Gap, adorned with lush forests, crystal clear lakes and valleys clad in flowers, and bordered by Wyoming Valley and Lake Wallenpaupack. This is a place perfect for anyone who is looking for peace, serenity and natural beauty. Here are only a few things among many that you shouldn’t miss in Poconos.

Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area

The natural beauty of the area surrounding the Delaware Water Gap is simply spectacular and is considered one of world’s natural wonders. The area was declared a Natural Recreation Area in 1978 with the aim of its protection, management and presentation to the world.

The park includes the 40 mile long Delaware River, 67,000 acres of densely forested mountains, valleys, ravines brimming with rhododendrons, floodplains and rich wildlife including deer, foxes, bears, chipmunks and more. More than 100 miles of scenic trails take you to some of the most beautiful waterfalls, ravines and gorges. A 27-mile part of Appalachian Trail passes through this area.

Bushkill Falls

Bushkill Falls start with a small but crystal clear stream high up in the Pocono Mountains that tumbles down the cliffs making its way towards the Delaware River far down. It speeds up while running to the first of the eight falls named Pennell Falls, keeping up through the narrow Laurel Glen and Upper Canyon till it cascades magnificently over a 100-foot cliff, forming the gorgeous Main Falls. It creates a superb, cool, deep pool encircled by flowers and ferns before cascading another 70 feet.

Hickory Run State Park

Located in the Carbon County in the less forested western foothills of Pocono Mountains in around 16,000 acres, Hickory Run State Park is renowned for its Boulder Field, a large flat area having big round boulders that resemble the moon’s surface. There is a lovely swimming beach at Sand Spring Lake. The area has numerous picnic tables, playground equipment and restrooms.

Promised Land State Park

Promised Land State Park is a 3,000-acre natural wonderland high on the Pocono Plateau, more than 1,800 feet above sea level. Surrounding it is a dense forest rich with trees like beech, oak, maple and hemlock. Two lovely lakes too adorn the area with a well-equipped picnic area, playground, sand volleyball court and more.
